Barley Water
This is a very popular drink among many coffeeshops and restaurants. While it is commonly known to be a cooling drink and for its diuretic effects and making it is so easy!
Preparation Time : 5 minutes
Cooking Time : 30 minutes
Ingredients
1 rice bowl of dried barley (you can get them from supermarkets or Chinese Medicinal Halls)
1/2 rice bowl of melon strips (Chinese Medicinal Halls sell them)
2 Pandan leaves (optional - tie them into a knot!)
Rock Sugar (add to taste - melon strips should provide some level of sweetness to the drink already)
Water
Method
1. Wash dried barley in the pot you intend to boil it in. Remove barley that floats on the water.
2. Fill the pot with 2 litres of water and put it boil.
3. Lower fire, add in melon strips and pandan leaves (optional - tying them in a knot makes it easier for you to remove the leaves later).
4. Add Rock sugar to taste.
5. Let it simmer for 30 minutes and ready to serve - either cold or warm, you choose!
