Double-Boiled Frog Legs and Mini Bittergourd
After reading the news today reporting the rising number of Dengue cases (http://news.xin.msn.com/en/singapore/dengue-cases-on-the-rise-again), it prompted me to post this blog on a soup that seems to work for dengue patients. It was introduced to me by a friend who suffered two episodes of Dengue when my sister was suffering from it.
I really hope this will work for everyone who is suffering from Dengue. Recover soon!
Preparation Time : 10 minutes
Cooking Time : 120 minutes (slow cooker)
What you need: A double broiler or a slow cooker with a double-boiling pot
Double-boiling pot in purple clay (紫砂)
Ingredients
1 frog, washed and chopped (if it is difficult to get them from the supermarket, try it at those frog porridge restaurants. Ask them to wash and chop them for you. I got mine this way.)
1 1/2 mini bittergourds, washed and remove all seeds. Cut each into 4-6 pieces, removing the both ends. (It must be mini bittergourds, not the standard size ones.)
Water
Pinch of Salt
Method
1. Put chopped frogs and bittergourds into the pot. Pour tap water to fill up the pot.
2. Put the pot into the slow cooker and fill the slow cooker with water just enough to cover about 1/4 of the pot.
3. Set temperature at high and let it double-boil for 40 minutes, and then turn it to low to double-boil for another 80 minutes.
4. Add dash of salt to taste. Drink only the soup.
PS : This soup is not a substitute for the medication prescribed for Dengue, as it has no medicinal effect. It is still important to seek medical attention for Dengue!
