Cooking for the FIRST time

I still remember my first attempt on cooking.

I was trying hard to juggle with the demands of everything that needed to happen at the same time, because heat does not wait for you.

And so this is what I learnt, and it has become a great habit for me each time I cook : A good preparation.

Preparing ingredients is like having all your tools ready for an activity. It saves you half the trouble (and the stress) of finding your ingredient when you need it, and the cooking becomes much simpler. Therefore, I have these glass bowls and plates that I bought from Ikea just for food preparation. I will normally take time to carefully prepare my ingredients and sort them into the bowls before each cooking.

Besides organising your ingredients, you also need good sharp knives and cutting board for your work. I invest in good knives to save me the pain of having to always sharpen them. It is indeed a pain when your knife is blunt and cutting becomes difficult.

It is also a good hygienic habit to separate the board used to cut raw meat from vegetables and fruits to prevent cross-contamination. And never buy wooden boards because they are porous and can harbour bacteria.

With these simple knowledge, I hope you are now better equipped to face the excitement of cooking!
